THT-The Minister of Information, Culture and National Guidance Hon. Suleiman Yusuf Ali Koore has spoken about the political temperature of Somaliland at this time. The minister reiterated the important need for economical development and guarding against insecurity. He said Somaliland people should unite for the common good of their country and avoid anything that may bring about discord.
He said the country’s citizens voted 97% in referendum for constitutional independence of Somaliland.
Minister Suleiman said that the country’s constitution must be respected and followed.
He revealed that the government holds elections as stipulated by the national constitution.
The information minister stated that the government never meddles in the work of Somaliland National Electoral Commission (SLNEC). He said the commissioners had their own disagreements and split into two groups.
He went further to explicitly state that the president appointed a committee to delve into the borne of contention amongst the electoral commissioners and come with a lasting solution.
The minister also talked about the refusal of opposition parties to follow the country’s time line on the holding of presidential and national parties’ elections. He said the people of Somaliland are law abiding citizens and will never stray from the constitution.
He said that after every decade new parties are formed to represent the people hence it is time for elections of new political parties.
Minister Suleiman added that the government held parliamentary and local council elections which enabled the opposition parties to gain foothold in many mayoral wins in different towns and cities across Somaliland.
