Somaliland: NEC Receives WHO and EU Donated Covid-19 Kits
Amb Nicholas Berlanga hands over Covid-19 kits to NEC in Hargeisa

THT: Staffers at the National Elections Commission-NEC shall be properly protected from Covid-19 infection during and to the runup of the 31st May Somaliland Elections.

This was stated by NEC chairman  Eng. Abdirashid Mahmud Ali Aka Riyo-rac as he received a consignment of assorted medical kits from the European Union representative to Somaliland and Somalia Ambassador Nicholas Berlanga in Hargeisa

Jointly donated by the World Health organization-WHO and the European Union-EU consists of Covid19 Prevention Kits including face masks & hand-wash sanitizers.

“While NEC workers and the electorate  abide by the laid down  prevention measures this token of our donation will greatly help prevent Covid-19 infection,” said Ambassador Berlanga

Upon the delivery of the medical kits the EU envoy also inspected ballot papers at the NEC warehouse in Hargeisa.

 

As the election commissioners revealed that the ballot papers are ready to be dispatched to the 1, 642 polling stations Amb Berlanga said that “The unity and leadership of NEC should be praised and supported”

Somaliland is going to the polls on the 31st of May when over 1,200,000 registered voters are expected to cast votes for their choice of Members of Parliament and Local Councils.

With 82 parliamentary seats at stake and each of the three parties of Kulmiye, UCID and Wadani sponsoring the same number nationwide there are 246 candidates vying for votes in the six electoral regions

As for the 23 electoral districts of which there are 249 seats with three political parties sponsoring the same there  747 candidates aspiring councilors nationwide for local Councils leadership nationwide.
