A high-level Somaliland delegation led by Minister of Defense Hon. Mohamed Yusuf Ali has concluded strategic talks with senior officials of the U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) at the command’s headquarters in Germany, marking another step in the growing security engagement between Somaliland and the United States.
The Somaliland delegation included the Commander of the Somaliland Coast Guard, Admiral Ahmed Hurre Hariye, as well as Senior Adviser Farah Ahmed Habuush and scholar Abdulaziz Ahmed.
During the meeting, both sides held extensive discussions on strengthening bilateral defense and security cooperation. The key agenda items included expanding defense collaboration between Somaliland and the United States, as well as enhancing joint efforts to improve maritime security in the strategically important Horn of Africa and across international waters.
The talks underscored the importance of closer coordination on regional security challenges, particularly in safeguarding maritime routes and promoting stability in one of the world’s most strategically significant regions.
According to the Somaliland delegation, the meeting concluded with a mutual understanding and a joint agreement to advance cooperation in the defense sector. The agreement reflects a shared commitment to strengthening security ties and expanding collaboration on issues of mutual strategic interest.
The engagement with AFRICOM comes as Somaliland continues to deepen its international security partnerships and highlight its role as a reliable contributor to peace, maritime security, and regional stability in the Horn of Africa.
