Hargeisa – The Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources, H.E. Ali Jama Farah (Buureed), together with Director General Liban Mahmoud Diiriye and senior directors of the Ministry, attended a high-level coordination meeting today in Hargeisa, organized by YEEL Organization.
The gathering brought together key stakeholders in the fisheries value chain, including representatives from Fresh Fish and World Vision, to deliberate on strategic measures aimed at increasing fish output and improving the livelihoods of coastal communities.
Discussions centered on strengthening institutional collaboration, enhancing sustainable fishing practices, and unlocking the full economic potential of Somaliland’s marine resources. The Minister reiterated his Ministry’s unwavering commitment to advancing the fisheries sector as a cornerstone of national food security and economic diversification.
“We are determined to harness our marine wealth through inclusive partnerships and sound policy frameworks,” said Minister Buureed. “This sector holds immense promise for job creation and sustainable development.”
The meeting marks another step in the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to align with international partners and local organizations in driving growth within the blue economy.
