Hargeisa – The Minister of Agriculture Development of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Aden Geedi Qayaad, officially opened a high-level capacity-building training session for staff of the UGBAAD Project. The ceremony was held at the Ministry’s conference hall in Hargeisa.
The 11-day training programme is designed to strengthen the technical and managerial competencies of Ministry personnel directly engaged in the implementation of the UGBAAD Project. Its curriculum covers key areas including modern agronomic practices, agricultural project management, and effective programme delivery, with the overarching aim of enhancing the quality of services provided to farmers and rural communities across Somaliland.
The opening event was attended by senior Ministry officials, representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) – including Ms. Aamina Abdillahi Haruun – and the UGBAAD Project Manager, Mr. Mubaarik Osman Abdi. In their addresses, all speakers emphasised the transformative value of sustained professional development in advancing agricultural productivity and ensuring the successful execution of development initiatives.
In his keynote remarks, Minister Aden Geedi Qayaad underscored that such training is instrumental in building institutional capacity within the Ministry. He further noted that equipping staff with updated knowledge and skills would directly contribute to boosting agricultural output, accelerating the achievement of Ministry objectives, and reinforcing Somaliland’s commitment to food security and sustainable rural livelihoods.
