In a positive step following Israel’s historic recognition of the Republic of Somaliland as a sovereign state on December 26, 2025—making Israel the first UN member state to do so—a delegation from Somaliland’s Embassy in the United Kingdom visited the Embassy of the State of Israel in London on January 29, 2026.
The Somaliland delegation, led by His Excellency Ambassador Said Hassan Bihi (also referred to as Hon. Said Hassan Bihi), was warmly received by Israel’s Chargé d’Affaires, Mrs. Daniela Grudsky Ekstein, along with Political Counselor Yossi Zilberman.
The meeting featured cordial and productive discussions. The Somaliland side expressed sincere gratitude to Israel for its recognition and provided a briefing on Somaliland’s rich historical heritage, longstanding stability, democratic governance, and abundant natural resources.
Israeli officials expressed delight in hosting the delegation and appreciation for the constructive exchange. Both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, expanding partnership, and exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation in the future.
This engagement highlights the growing diplomatic momentum between Somaliland and Israel in the wake of the December recognition, amid strategic developments in the Horn of Africa and Red Sea region.
