The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Somaliland, Hamse Khaire, commended the outgoing leadership of the Somaliland National Youth Organization (SONYO) for maintaining strong performance despite facing significant economic, social, and global challenges during their tenure.

Speaking at the official handover ceremony between the former and incoming national leadership of SONYO, Khaire highlighted that the outgoing team navigated a period marked by numerous worldwide changes and new domestic difficulties.

“During the time they served, many shifts took place in the world. The country confronted fresh economic and social obstacles, while young people encountered both opportunities and intense competing challenges,” he said. “Nevertheless, their effort and impact never declined.”

He further noted that, based on his close observation, the outgoing leadership successfully:

  • Forged new partnerships
  • Firmly defended freedom of expression
  • Strengthened dialogue and connections among Somaliland’s youth
  • Consistently advanced SONYO’s core mission of supporting, representing, and empowering the country’s young people

Addressing the newly elected leadership, Deputy Governor Khaire congratulated them and made clear the high expectations the public holds.“

The youth of Somaliland are not looking only for encouragement from you,” he stated. “They expect real leadership, genuine representation, active defense of their rights, and practical support to turn their dreams into reality.”

Khaire concluded by emphasizing that the incoming team now shoulders a major responsibility that demands clear vision and decisive action to effectively guide and advance the interests of Somaliland’s youth.
