The Somaliland Strategic Advisory Group (SL-SAG) welcomes a historic milestone in Somaliland’s long pursuit of international recognition.

For over 34 years, Somaliland has demonstrated peace, democratic governance, and regional stability despite sustained diplomatic exclusion and political obstruction. Today, the Republic of Somaliland’s resilience has been recognized on the international stage.

As of December 26, 2025, Israel has officially recognized Somaliland as an independent and sovereign state. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel formally recognized the Republic of Somaliland, making Israel the first United Nations member state to do so.

This recognition marks a strategic inflection point and sets a precedent likely to be followed by the United States and other global actors. It affirms that Somaliland’s statehood is grounded in history, law, and the will of its people.

SL-SAG emphasizes that Somaliland’s path toward full international integration is now irreversible. The Somaliland flag symbolizing faith, unity, and freedom flies with renewed legitimacy, reflecting the achievements of its people and government.

SL-SAG remains committed to supporting Somaliland’s diplomatic engagement, fostering international partnerships, and promoting stability, accountability, and democracy in the Horn of Africa.
