Louise Hancock, Head of the British Office in Hargeisa, has extended her warm congratulations to renowned Somaliland humanitarian Dr. Edna Adan Ismail for receiving the 2025 Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice from the Harmony Foundation.

The award recognizes Dr. Edna Adan Ismail’s lifelong dedication to advancing maternal health and combating female genital mutilation (FGM) in Somaliland and beyond. As a pioneering nurse-midwife, she founded the Edna Adan University and Hospital, which have dramatically reduced maternal mortality rates and trained thousands of healthcare professionals in the region.
