British Diplomat Celebrates Dr. Edna Adan Ismail’s 2025 Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice

Louise Hancock, Head of the British Office in Hargeisa, has extended her warm congratulations to renowned Somaliland humanitarian Dr. Edna Adan Ismail for receiving the 2025 Mother Teresa Memorial Award for Social Justice from the Harmony Foundation.

The award recognizes Dr. Edna Adan Ismail’s lifelong dedication to advancing maternal health and combating female genital mutilation (FGM) in Somaliland and beyond. As a pioneering nurse-midwife, she founded the Edna Adan University and Hospital, which have dramatically reduced maternal mortality rates and trained thousands of healthcare professionals in the region.

“Huge congratulations to the ever-inspiring Dr Edna Adan for being awarded the Mother Teresa ‘Guardians of Humanity’ award,” Hancock stated.

The Harmony Foundation’s Mother Teresa Memorial Awards honor individuals who promote social justice, peace, and humanitarian service in the spirit of Mother Teresa. Dr. Adan Ismail’s recognition highlights her extraordinary contributions to women’s health, education, and human rights in Somaliland.
