Dahabshiil Group has become the first private company to respond to an urgent appeal for medical assistance in Awdal region, delivering a large consignment of medicines and critical medical equipment to Borama General Hospital on Monday following recent deadly clashes in the city.
The donation was handed over in an emotional ceremony attended by hospital administrators, doctors, local authorities and Dahabshiil representatives, just hours after health officials issued a public plea for help to treat dozens of wounded patients overwhelming the facility.
Speaking at the event, Borama General Hospital Director Sahal Ahmed described the donation as “life-saving” and praised Dahabshiil for its swift response.
“Dahabshiil Group is the very first private company that felt our pain and immediately answered our call. Whatever emergency medical supplies we desperately needed, they brought everything today. We cannot thank them enough,” Mr Sahal said.
Deputy Chairman of the Doctors’ Association Muhiyadin also expressed profound gratitude, saying the aid would directly help save lives in the coming days.
Idris Xaashi Dharaar, Dahabshiil Group’s Regional Manager for Awdal, reaffirmed the company’s long-standing commitment to the community.
“The moment we saw the appeal from the hospital and the people of Awdal, we mobilized and delivered the most urgent medicines and equipment required supplies. Dahabshiil will always stand with the community in times of medical emergencies or threats to peace,” Mr Dharaar said, while extending heartfelt condolences to families who lost loved ones in the violence.
Borama Mayor Mohamud Sheikh Ibrahim hailed the donation as a shining example of corporate social responsibility.
“I thank Dahabshiil Group for standing with the people of Awdal at this difficult time. May Allah reward them abundantly. This is how the business community can play a vital role in caring for society and strengthening peace,” the mayor said.
He also paid tribute to Borama’s healthcare workers for their tireless efforts in treating the injured under extremely challenging conditions.
The swift intervention by Dahabshiil Group has once again reinforced its reputation across Somaliland and the wider Horn of Africa as a company that consistently stands with communities in both good times and bad.
