I Share the Grief and Pain with All Families Affected; What Happened Has Brought Joy to Many Who Wish to See Somaliland Collapse

The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, delivered an emotional address on tonight regarding the deadly violence that erupted in the city of Borama, capital of Awdal region, where several people were killed, others injured, and both public and private property destroyed.

President Irro extended profound condolences to the bereaved families, praying to Allah to grant paradise to those who lost their lives and speedy recovery to the wounded. He described the incident as one that could have been prevented through reason and said it inflicted serious damage on Somaliland’s hard-earned reputation for peace.

“I share the sorrow and pain with all the families and relatives who have been affected. Losses have occurred that have delighted many who wish to see Somaliland fail one day,” President Irro said.

The President issued strict orders for all military forces stationed in Borama to immediately return to their barracks in order to calm the situation. He urged traditional elders, religious scholars, intellectuals, and the business community to take a leading role in restoring stability to the city.

“I have ordered the military forces to return to their bases. I say to my brothers and sisters: let us calm down, let normal life resume, let people return to work and turn to the worship of Allah,” he appealed to the people of Borama.

President Irro strongly emphasized that his government is fully prepared to resolve any existing grievances through dialogue and mutual understanding, and that no further bloodshed will ever be tolerated.

“There will be nothing we are forced to accept without consultation. I am committed to resolving every grievance at the table, without bloodshed and without destroying our cities. Nothing is more precious to me than preventing the spilling of my people’s blood,” the President declared.

He also confirmed that an official investigation is underway, that everyone found responsible will face the full force of the law, and that the government will provide comprehensive relief and support to the victims’ families.

In concluding his address, President Irro stressed that the centuries-old history of Awdal region cannot be altered by anyone, and that the responsibility of the state is to protect the rights of every citizen, with no tolerance for injustice or the unlawful deprivation of anyone’s rights.
