The Ministry of Transport and Roads Development (MoTRD) has officially announced the Somaliland National Road Safety Conference 2025, scheduled to take place from November 25–26, 2025, in Hargeisa.
Under the theme “Building A Safer Future”, the two-day conference will unite government officials, parliamentarians, traffic police, emergency responders, academics, civil society organizations, youth groups, private sector representatives, transport and insurance industry leaders, and international development partners to confront the country’s rising toll of preventable road traffic accidents.
Despite steady progress in infrastructure and economic development, road crashes continue to claim lives and cause serious injuries across Somaliland. The conference will adopt a comprehensive, evidence-based approach focusing on five key pillars: public awareness and responsible driving, stricter enforcement, safer road design and vehicle standards, improved post-crash emergency response, and better data collection and analysis.
Key Objectives of the ConferenceFoster stronger collaboration among government, private sector, civil society, and development partners
Formulate a research-driven National Road Safety Strategy and actionable implementation plan
Enhance emergency medical services and support systems for crash victims
Launch nationwide campaigns to promote road safety education and behavioral change
Prioritize investment in safer road infrastructure, signage, speed management, and data systems
Participants will engage in high-level panel discussions, technical presentations, and focused working groups to identify practical solutions and commitments.
