A pivotal meeting aimed at accelerating the utilization of the Berbera Port and Berbera Corridor trade route took place at the Ambassador Hotel in Hargeisa.
Jointly organized by the Somaliland Ministry of Commerce and Tourism and the British Office in Hargeisa, the gathering underscored ongoing efforts to boost trade and maximize the potential of the Berbera Port.
The meeting was officially opened by Mr. Abdirahman Hassan Noor, Minister of Commerce and Tourism, Mr. Abdilahi Hassan Adan, Minister of Finance and Economic Development, and Mr. Chris Pycroft, FCDO Development Director.
The leaders emphasized the critical role of collaboration in advancing the strategic use of the Berbera Corridor.Attendees included representatives from key government institutions, such as the Ministries of Finance, Foreign Affairs, Planning, Presidency, Transport, the National Insurance Agency, the Somaliland Ports Authority, and the President’s Economic Advisor.
Discussions focused on addressing commercial and technical challenges hindering the full utilization of the Berbera Port and Corridor. A detailed report, “Past and Present Status of Trade and Berbera Corridor Utilization,” presented by the Ministries of Commerce and Finance, outlined historical progress, recent developments, and current obstacles.
The meeting concluded with a unified commitment to fast-track initiatives to enhance the Berbera Corridor, positioning it as a competitive trade hub in the Horn of Africa region.
The Ministry of Commerce and Tourism thanked all participants and reaffirmed its dedication to driving Somaliland’s economic growth through strengthened trade infrastructure.
