In a significant step toward modernizing education in Somaliland, the Minister of Education and Science, Prof. Ismail Duale Yusuf, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Alef Education, a leading global educational technology company, during a high-level meeting in Abu Dhabi. The agreement, formalized with Alef Education’s CEO, Mr. Geoffrey Alphonso, aims to transform Somaliland’s education system through cutting-edge technology and innovative learning solutions.

The MoU marks a milestone in Somaliland’s efforts to enhance its educational framework, focusing on integrating advanced digital tools and services to benefit students, teachers, and administrative systems. Alef Education, headquartered in the UAE, is renowned for its award-winning platforms, serving over 1.6 million students across countries such as the United States, Indonesia, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.

This collaboration builds on the growing partnership between Somaliland and the UAE, following PrPresidenH.E. Abdirahman Abdillahi Irro’s recent visit to the Emirates, which led to the establishment of Burco’s major hospital. The education MoU represents the second major initiative under this bilateral cooperation, signaling a commitment to sustainable development and innovation.

“This agreement with Alef Education is a game-changer for Somaliland’s education sector,” said Prof. Ismail. “By leveraging their expertise in edtech, we are paving the way for a brighter future for our students and educators.”

Mr. Geoffrey Alphonso expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are honored to work with Somaliland to empower its education system with our innovative solutions, fostering a new era of learning and opportunity.”

The initiative is expected to roll out modern educational technologies across Somaliland’s schools, equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in a globalized world and strengthening the nation’s education infrastructure.
