In a landmark move to revolutionize agricultural support, the Somaliland Ministry of Agricultural Development, led by Minister Hon. Mohamoud Ege Yusuf and Director General Eng. Abdirisak Gaas, has launched the innovative Farmers’ Assistance Office, featuring a dedicated short code service, 9669.
This initiative, aimed at empowering farmers and boosting food security, marks a significant step toward modernizing Somaliland’s agricultural sector.
The Farmers’ Assistance Office provides direct, real-time support to farmers across the country, offering expert advice on critical areas such as seed quality, pest control, disease management, rainfall forecasting, climate adaptation, and crop marketing. By dialing 9669, farmers can connect with agricultural experts from their fields, accessing timely and reliable solutions to enhance productivity and resilience.
“This office and the 9669 short code are game-changers for our farmers, who are the heart of our economy,” said Hon. Mohamoud Ege Yusuf. “Under the leadership of Director General Eng. Abdirisak Gaas, we are committed to delivering practical, technology-driven solutions to address the challenges our farmers faces.
Eng. Abdirisak Gaas emphasized the initiative’s role in reducing risks from pests, diseases, and climate variability. “This service ensures farmers receive immediate support, fostering sustainable practices and strengthening our agricultural backbone,” he stated.
The office also promotes knowledge-sharing among farmers, encouraging collaboration and innovation within the sector. The launch aligns with the Ministry’s broader 2025–2030 Strategic Plan for Agricultural Development, which focuses on modernization, sustainability, and food security. The initiative has been praised as a model for leveraging technology to enhance public services, with the potential to transform livelihoods and solidify Somaliland’s agricultural foundation.
Farmers are encouraged to utilize the 9669 service for ongoing support. “This is a historic step toward empowering our farmers and securing Somaliland’s future,” added Minister Yusuf.
