The Ministry of Information, Culture, and Awareness of Somaliland has taken a bold step to promote creativity and preserve cultural heritage through its inaugural literary competition, “Compete with Your Poetry,” held at the ministry’s headquarters. The event, a cornerstone of Somaliland’s national strategy to foster innovation and safeguard the Somali language, brought together poets, youth, and creative minds in a vibrant celebration of literature.

Led by Minister of Information Hon. Ahmed-Yasin Sheikh Ali Ayanle, Deputy Minister Muse Askar Guled, and Director General Abdisalan Mahmoud Duale (Ilka-case), the competition highlighted the ministry’s commitment to nurturing talent and reinforcing cultural identity. “Literature is the backbone of our society and a vital tool for nation-building,” said Minister Ayanle during the event. “This competition is a testament to our dedication to preserving our mother tongue and inspiring the next generation.”

The “Compete with Your Poetry” initiative provided a platform for young Somalilanders to showcase their talents, emphasizing the role of poetry in fostering unity, national pride, and social progress. Winners of the competition were celebrated not only for their creativity but also for their contributions to cultural preservation, with awards serving as a powerful recognition of their role in carrying forward Somaliland’s rich heritage.

The event underscored the enduring significance of Somaliland’s literary tradition, which has long served as a vehicle for awareness, peace-building, and cultural guidance. By encouraging youth to engage in literary creation, the ministry aims to strengthen national identity and empower a new generation to champion their heritage.

“This is more than a competition—it’s a movement to ensure our culture and language thrive for generations to come,” said Deputy Minister Guled. The ministry plans to make “Compete with Your Poetry” an annual event, further solidifying its role as a leader in cultural and creative advancement.
