The National Drought Relief Committee, led by Somaliland’s Vice President and Committee Chairman, H.E. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, today received a significant consignment of food aid from the United Arab Emirates. The donation, handed over by UAE Representative to Somaliland, Dr. Abdalla Al Naqbi, is set to support 9,000 families severely impacted by ongoing drought conditions across the region.
The committee expressed heartfelt gratitude to the UAE government for their timely assistance, which aims to alleviate the suffering of Somaliland communities grappling with the effects of prolonged drought.
In a parallel show of solidarity, the committee also received a cash donation of 120,000,000 million Somaliland Shillings from Abdinasir Ahmed Hirsi, Governor of the Bank of Somaliland. The funds, generously contributed by the bank’s staff, were praised as a commendable effort to bolster drought relief initiatives.
This dual support marks a significant step in addressing the humanitarian challenges faced by drought-affected populations in Somaliland, with the committee reaffirming its commitment to ensuring aid reaches those in greatest need.
