The National Committee for Drought Response in Somaliland convened a critical meeting with international and local humanitarian organizations to address the ongoing drought crisis affecting the nation. The gathering aimed to strengthen collaboration and expedite relief efforts for communities hardest hit by the drought.

The meeting focused on assessing the drought’s severity, identifying urgent humanitarian needs, and fostering coordinated action to mitigate its impact. Representatives from the National Committee, alongside delegates from global and local aid agencies, underscored the importance of unified, strategic efforts to support affected populations.

The Committee presented a detailed overview of the drought’s scale and its devastating effects, outlining the national strategy to tackle the crisis and highlighting the pivotal role humanitarian organizations can play. Both parties agreed to enhance cooperation, improve information sharing, and ensure aid reaches the most vulnerable communities. A framework for sustained coordination and unified operations was also established.

In a significant development, the Pharo Foundation donated 1,000 water containers to the National Committee, marking their first targeted contribution to drought relief efforts.

Vice President H.E. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi, who chairs the Committee, closed the meeting by urging humanitarian organizations to intensify their efforts to deliver aid to those in need. He also renewed his appeal to the international community and Somalilanders, both at home and abroad, to provide robust humanitarian support to alleviate the suffering caused by the drought.

This collaborative initiative signals a strong commitment to addressing Somaliland’s drought crisis through collective action and solidarity.
