The Somaliland Ministry of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs, in partnership with Raxma Charity, provided critical aid to 200 vulnerable families in Hargeisa today. The distribution included various essential items such as containers and plastic sheets, aimed at supporting displaced families recently relocated from temporary settlements.
These families, who had resided in makeshift camps in the Mohamed Moge district, in Hargeisa for the past 15 years, were moved to permanent settlements two days ago as part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to improve living conditions for internally displaced persons (IDPs).
The initiative reflects Somaliland’s commitment to addressing the needs of its displaced population amidst challenges like climate-induced displacement and poverty.
Speaking at the event, Director-General Mukhtar Abdi Jama (Baaxo) reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to supporting IDP camps, stating, “We are committed to ensuring continuous assistance to our displaced communities.” Minister Hon. Saleban echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the Ministry’s readiness to monitor and address the needs of vulnerable populations consistently.
Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the Ministry’s efforts. “We are thankful for the constant support from the Ministry, which stands by us in our time of need,” said a representative of the families.
The Ministry’s collaboration with humanitarian organizations continues to play a vital role in alleviating hardship for Somaliland’s most vulnerable communities.
