Livestock Minister Welcomes Mercy Corps to Discuss Livestock Development

In a significant step toward advancing Somaliland’s livestock sector, the Minister of the Ministry of Livestock, Honorable Omar Shucayb Mohamed, accompanied by Director General Ahmed Osman Jama (Talo-same), held a productive meeting with representatives from Mercy Corps. The discussions focused on addressing critical challenges facing the livestock industry and exploring collaborative opportunities to enhance sustainable development.

The meeting underscored the importance of livestock as a cornerstone of Somaliland’s economy, with Mercy Corps expressing their commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at improving animal health, market access, and resilience for pastoralist communities. Minister Mohamed emphasized the need for innovative solutions to tackle issues such as drought, disease outbreaks, and limited infrastructure, which continue to impact the sector.
