In a significant step toward bolstering public safety and modernizing national infrastructure, President H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro of the Republic of Somaliland officially opened the newly renovated Central Police Station in Hargeisa on Tuesday, June 24, 2025. The ceremony, held at the historic station, drew a distinguished crowd, including government officials, police leadership, and community representatives.
The Central Police Station, a longstanding symbol of law and order in Somaliland’s capital, has undergone a comprehensive overhaul, featuring state-of-the-art facilities and advanced equipment designed to enhance operational efficiency and combat crime. Major General Abdirahman Abdilahi Hasan, Commander of the Somaliland Police Force, underscored the station’s vital role in serving the community, stating, “This modernization equips our officers with the tools and environment needed to ensure safety and security in Hargeisa.”
A remarkable aspect of the project is that the design, innovation, and construction were entirely led by the Somaliland Police Force’s engineering and construction teams. This achievement highlights the government’s commitment to self-reliance and capacity-building within its national institutions, as emphasized by President Irro’s administration under its “Inclusion and Action” agenda.
In his address, President Irro praised the police leadership for their dedication, noting, “A well-equipped and capable police force is indispensable for maintaining peace and stability across our nation. This milestone reflects our collective resolve to build a secure and prosperous Somaliland.”
The revamped station is expected to serve as a model for future infrastructure projects, reinforcing public trust in the police and strengthening Somaliland’s commitment to national development. The event concluded with a tour of the facility, showcasing its modern amenities and advanced technological upgrades.
