Somaliland President Hosts Farewell Meeting with Outgoing Swedish Ambassador

In a significant diplomatic engagement, the President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro, hosted a farewell meeting today with the outgoing Swedish Ambassador to Somaliland and Somalia, Mr. Joachim Waem. The meeting, held in Hargeisa, underscored the deepening ties between Somaliland and Sweden.

Accompanying the President were the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon. Abdirahman Dahir Adan, the Minister of the Presidency, Hon. Khadar Hussein Abdi, the President’s Foreign Affairs Advisor, Mohamed Haji, and the President’s Spokesperson, Hussein Deyr.

The discussions, described as strategic and cordial, highlighted Somaliland’s commitment to fostering cooperation with Sweden in key areas such as development, investment, and regional security, particularly in the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea. President Irro emphasized Somaliland’s rich resources and its readiness to collaborate, while thanking Sweden for its ongoing support, which has addressed critical community needs.

President Irro also shared notable achievements of his administration, including the professionalization of civilian forces, stabilization of eastern regions, and advancements in foreign policy.

Ambassador Waem praised Somaliland’s peace, stability, and democratic system, calling it a model for East Africa. He reaffirmed Sweden’s role as a close ally and revealed that Somaliland enjoys strong support within the Swedish Parliament. The Ambassador pledged to deliver a detailed report to his government reflecting Somaliland’s realities.

The meeting concluded with an exchange of goodwill, marked by President Irro presenting Ambassador Waem with a cultural gift symbolizing Somaliland’s heritage. This encounter reinforces the strong bilateral relationship and sets a positive tone for future collaboration between the two nations.
