PPresident H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi Irro warmly received a high-level delegation from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), led by Secretary-General Jagan Chapagain, at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa on 23rd June,  2025. The visit, facilitated by an official invitation from the Somaliland Red Crescent Society (SRCS), underscores Somaliland’s growing engagement with global humanitarian organizations.

During the meeting, President Irro expressed gratitude for the IFRC’s vital contributions to Somaliland, particularly in healthcare, disaster relief, and community development. “We deeply value the work of international organizations like the IFRC in supporting our people,” the President said, according to his spokesperson, Hussein Deyr. He urged the delegation to expand the scope and quality of their projects in Somaliland to further benefit local communities.

Secretary-General Chapagain, whose Geneva-based organization represents 192 member states, praised Somaliland’s remarkable peace and stability. “I have visited Marodi-jeh, Sahil, anTogdheer regions, and what I’ve seen here contradicts the misconceptions often portrayed about Somaliland,” he remarked. He emphasized that the country’s secure environment enables humanitarian workers to operate freely and effectively across the nation.

The delegation included senior Somaliland SRCS officials, such as Executive Director Ahmed Abdi Bakaal and Nairobi-based SRCS President Yusuf Hassan Mohamed, alongside IFRC representatives Mr. Nixon and Mr. AAzmat. The visit highlights Somaliland’s commitment to fostering partnerships with global humanitarian bodies to address pressing needs and promote sustainable development.

The SRCS, an active member of the IFRC, continues to play a pivotal role in delivering aid and services across Somaliland, supported by the nation’s stable governance and peaceful environment.
