Somaliland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Abdirahman Daahir Aadan, returned on Sunday 22nd June, 2025 from a four-day official visit to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, aimed at bolstering diplomatic and strategic relations between the two nations.
Leading a delegation that included Mr. Mohamed Abdirahman Hasan, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Mr. Mohamed H. Mahmoud, Presidential Advisor on Foreign Affairs, Minister Aadan engaged in productive discussions with Ethiopian officials from June 19 to 22. The highlight of the visit was a key meeting with Ethiopia’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Gedion Timotheos Hessebon, where both sides explored avenues to deepen their cooperative and neighborly ties.
The talks focused on enhancing bilateral collaboration in areas of mutual interest, including trade, security, and regional stability. Both ministers reaffirmed their commitment to fostering stronger diplomatic relations and strategic partnerships.
Expressing gratitude for the warm hospitality extended by the Ethiopian government, Minister Aadan described the visit as a significant step forward in cementing the longstanding friendship between Somaliland and Ethiopia. “Our discussions were fruitful, and we look forward to building on this momentum for the benefit of both our peoples,” he stated upon his return.
The visit underscores Somaliland’s ongoing efforts to expand its international partnerships, particularly with key regional allies like Ethiopia, as it continues to seek broader diplomatic recognition.
