In a significant step toward improving government asset management, Vice President H.E. Mohamed Ali Aw Abdi officially launched the Government Vehicle Movement Record Book Saturday 14th June, 2025. The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Transport and Road Development, aims to establish a robust system for tracking and managing government vehicles to prevent misuse and ensure accountability.
Speaking at the launch event, Minister of Transport Osman Ibrahim Nur (Afgab) emphasized the importance of the record book in addressing long-standing issues of neglect and mismanagement of government vehicles. “We have conducted a thorough inventory of all government vehicles and developed this record book to ensure proper documentation and regulation,” he stated. “Just as private vehicles are registered, government vehicles will now follow a similar process with strict compliance.”
The new system is expected to curb the unauthorized use of state vehicles and improve their maintenance, addressing a critical gap that previously left government assets vulnerable to mismanagement. The record book will serve as a centralized database, ensuring that all government vehicles are accounted for and used solely for official purposes.
This development marks a pivotal move by the Somaliland government to strengthen transparency and efficiency in public resource management, setting a precedent for improved governance in the region.
