Somaliland and Taiwan Strengthen Ties with $2.5M Humanitarian Grant

In a significant step towards deepening bilateral relations, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development of Somaliland, Hon. Abdilahi Hassan Adan, hosted the Ambassador of Taiwan at his office in Hargeisa. The meeting underscored the growing partnership between the two nations, with both sides expressing mutual appreciation for their collaborative efforts.

The Taiwanese Ambassador Hon Allen Lou commended the Somaliland government, particularly the Ministry of Finance, for fostering a robust cooperative relationship. He reaffirmed Taiwan’s commitment to supporting Somaliland’s development, highlighting the strong ties and shared goals between the two nations.

Minister Adan expressed gratitude for Taiwan’s unwavering support, citing key contributions such as educational scholarships, medical equipment, the construction of Hargeisa Hospital, financial backing for Somaliland’s 2024 elections, and infrastructure projects like the Hargeisa Airport Road. These initiatives have significantly bolstered Somaliland’s economic and social progress.

In a highlight of the meeting, the Ambassador presented a $2.5 million financial grant from the Taiwanese government to support Somaliland’s humanitarian efforts. The funds are earmarked to enhance ongoing initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of Somaliland’s citizens.

This latest gesture of goodwill further solidifies the partnership between Somaliland and Taiwan, reflecting their shared commitment to mutual growth and humanitarian development.
