A pivotal meeting concerning the Berbera Corridor Trade Route Project took place at the office of Somaliland’s Ministry of Finance and Economic Development on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Chaired by Finance Minister Hon. Abdillahi Hassan Adan, the gathering brought together key stakeholders to advance discussions on this transformative infrastructure initiative.
Attendees included Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Planning, Transport, and Communications, alongside the Governor of the Central Bank, the Manager of Berbera Fuel Depot, the Director of the Quality Control Authority, the Deputy Minister of Finance, the Director-General of Finance, the Head of the Customs Department, and other technical experts. The agenda focused on two critical points: finalizing the remaining tasks for the Berbera Corridor project and reviewing progress made to date.
The Berbera Corridor, a flagship economic project, aims to enhance trade connectivity between Somaliland and neighboring Ethiopia, fostering regional economic integration. The meeting underscores Somaliland’s commitment to expediting the project’s completion, which is expected to boost trade, create jobs, and strengthen economic ties.
This high-level discussion comes at a strategic time, as Republic of Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) is set to lead a delegation on an official visit to Ethiopia next week. The visit is anticipated to further solidify bilateral cooperation and advance the Berbera Corridor initiative.
Somaliland government remain optimistic that the project will unlock significant economic opportunities, positioning Berbera as a key trade hub in the Horn of Africa.
