In a heartfelt gesture of appreciation, Muuse Hassan Yusuf, Chairman of the Somaliland National Election Commission, hosted a special dinner to honor a group of international doctors who provided free medical services to the Burao community. The event, held in Hargeisa, was attended by Somaliland’s Deputy Ministers of Information and Transportation, alongside the celebrated medical professionals.
The doctors, hailing from various countries in Europe and Asia, spent a week in Somaliland offering critical healthcare to nearly a thousand residents. Their efforts included specialized surgeries, such as cleft lip corrections for children and treatments for severe burns, as well as emergency medical care. Chairman Yusuf praised their dedication, stating, “We are deeply grateful for your time and commitment to improving the health of our people. May your good deeds be rewarded.”
The initiative highlights Somaliland’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its healthcare system, despite challenges like limited infrastructure. The event also underscores the nation’s commitment to fostering international partnerships, as evidenced by similar medical cooperation agreements, such as the one signed with Taiwan in 2021 to enhance local healthcare capacity.
This act of recognition not only celebrates the doctors’ humanitarian work but also reinforces Somaliland’s spirit of gratitude and collaboration in addressing community needs.
