The much awaited assembly conference that was to pacify the El Afweyn district aimed at bringing tangible and lasting peace in the area has been initiated at last, on Wednesday.
It has been officially opened and kick-started by the VP himself, H.E. Mohamed Ali aw Abdi hence in attendance were cabinet members the Commander of the National Armed Forces, the Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, several MPs, and members of the clergy and traditional leaders of the brotherly clans who had been indulged in spate of skirmishes.
The speakers at the opening forum of the El-afweyn peace conference highly underscored the importance of a peaceful and harmoniously cohesive setting for the community.
They called for the need to commit to establishing lasting peace in the area and to avoid anything that undermines the peace, unity and brotherhood of the resident communities.
The VP vouched for the fact that the government is committed to ending the recurring violence in the area and pointed out that it is ready to implement projects in the district that will benefit the local community.
He underpinned the need and usefulness of living in harmony and establishing lasting peaceful aura such that development and progress may set in for prosperity. He similarly impressed upon the assembly the need to bolster peaceful security, solidarity unity hence consult each other and concertedly exert efforts in togetherness for progress to fledge.
The VP tentatively announced water and food relief supplies that would be delivered to the residents of El-afweyn District.
