Somaliland Minister of Livestock and Rural Development Hon. Omar Shuayb Mohamed has declared that the state has suspended the livestock exports to Saudi Arabia following some “quotas” presumably assigned to livestock trader AL YASIR, from the most improbable and unlikely authority.

He revealed that the government is in the process of addressing the issue.

The minister noted that despite the fact that Al Yasir is a part owner of one of the major three livestock holding pens in the country, the issue of being granted quota of livestock exports by a foreign country is untenable and cannot be applicable in Somaliland.

While stating that the Somalia-given quotas was something impossible to operate in Somaliland, he said that the said quotas is seemingly being applied in Boosaso in Puntland and Djibouti where Al Yasir also operates and has seen most Somali livestock dealers generate a lot of hues and cries.

On the other hand, Hon. Shuayib said that Somaliland was not part of Somalia hence it is a fact that ought to be well known.

In recent days, Somaliland livestock traders have been complaining a lot about businessman AL YASIR, who they described as having restricted livestock in the country due to a quota, but the Somaliland government, which acted on this matter, imposed a ban on livestock being exported to Saudi Arabia, until the government makes a decision.
