The Minister of Interior of the Republic of Somaliland, Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, commends the Somaliland Police Force for their success in helping to combat rape cases in the country.

The Minister said that the Somaliland Police Force has succeeded in arresting ninety-eight percent of the perpetrators of rape in the country.

The minister expressed his sentiments during the commemoration of the world Human Rights Day.

He however lamented that for the issues of rape cases to be properly dealt with it needs to have its regulations implemented without the loopholes of traditional customs and parental indulgences in the menace.

He stated that the state always received briefs from the police department that depicted a strong and positive mitigation on their part since they arrested almost all of the suspected culprits, but then when it comes to subjecting or meting out punishment to them, legal loopholes tether them somehow such that the victims do not get real justice.

He said that the law to cater for the cases is still lying as a Bill in the parliament and the draft has not been dispensed with.

He pointed out and advised concerted efforts since the issue is a menace at the heart of the center of humanity, tradition, customary and religious tenets hence has to be addressed.
