Law to punish basic rights violators to be formulated

THT- The Chairman of the National Human Rights Agency Mohamed Barud said that according to the Qur’an, it is necessary to protect human rights of both men and women and the vulnerable.

Chairman Mohamed was addressing World Human Rights Day in Hargeisa on Saturday, an anniversary which is celebrated every year on December 10 worldwide.

The theme of this year is ‘Dignity Freedom, and Justice for all’.

The event held in Hargeisa saw many eminent personalities grace it.

Chairman Mohamed said that 74 years ago it was agreed that basic human rights should be protected, including the rights of vulnerable people. He said that God told us in the Qur’an that He has glorified human beings hence all their universal basic human rights should be guarded at all costs.

The commission’s Director General disclosed that the commission would formulate a law that would arrest anyone who infringes upon and violates the rights of a person.

“When its draft is made the bill will be presented to the legislative bodies”, he said.

The Article of the law will empower the execution of Article 27 of the constitution which holds that basic human rights should not be violated at all.
