Sweden pledges support for Wahen Market reconstruction
THT- The President of the Republic of Somaliland, HE Muse Bihi Abdi, today received in his office the Sweden’s Ambassador HE Amb. Per Lindgarde, who arrived in the country on behalf of his country to express their sorrow and sympathy to the people of Somaliland.
The Swedish ambassador said that the people and government of Sweden are saddened by the crisis happened the Waaheen market, the economic backbone of Somaliland’s trade.
Amb Lindgarde pledged that Sweden was ready to contribute financially to the recovery of the community and the reconstruction of the Waheen market.
Sweden’s ambassador HE Lindgarde has announced that he will hold an emergency meeting of EU member states in Nairobi to discuss ways to address the crisis.
President Muse thanked Ambassador Lindgarde for his sympathy shown to the people of Somaliland to the tragedy that has engulfed the livelihood of hundreds of Somalilanders.
The president also briefed him on the magnitude of the fire devastation and the extent of the economic damage it has caused to the market community.
The President was accompanied by the Minister of Finance, Dr. Saad Ali Shire, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Acting Minister, Mr. Abdinasir Omer Jama. The Ambassador was accompanied by the Head of the Political Office of the Swedish Embassy, Mr. Johan Svensson.
