THT-According to news emanating from Nairobi, Kenya, a local politician has called for the international community to recognize the Republic of Somaliland. Speaking from Nairobi Hon.Ilyas Barre Shiil said that the time had come for Somaliland to be honored with international recognition. The legislator started that Somaliland had fulfilled all requirement for international acknowledgement as an independent state. He urged the community of nations to fast tract the acceptance of Somaliland as an independent entity from Somalia.

He went on to state that the people of Somaliland have shown resilience after forming a government from scratch, established peace and democratic institutions.
The former legislator trashed claims by Somalia that Somaliland cannot be an independent country. He added “Gone are the days when the ideology of five Somali regions unity was the norm and propagated by those few power hungry individuals. Somaliland has all semblance of a country.”
The former MP stressed that the long dream of uniting all Somali regions has failed and time has come for Somaliland to be recognized as an independent country.

He further stated that the main problem that is afflicting the Somali people lies in the Southern region since the Somali people residing in Mogadishu and Kismayo are killed and maimed on a daily basis.
