The late Dr. Ahmed Hassan Goolle, May Allah(SWT) have mercy on his soul passed away on Sunday, the 23rd January 2022, and was buried in Masalla Cemetery in Hargeisa, the capital city of the Republic of Somaliland.
The late Dr. Ahmed Hassan Goolle, until the time of his death, was a devoted medic “gynecologist” who specialized in women’s reproductive health and health system management
Those who knew him will remember the late Dr. Ahmed Hassan Goolle for his humility, kindness, simplicity, and hardworking civil servant, but most of all dedicatedto serving the country and community at large.
He was one of the pillars of the establishment of the current administrative system of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Somaliland and in particular in charge of the health department in Maroodijeex region for a long time. He worked for the Ministry of Health Development of the Republic of Somaliland (1994-2012) for nearly two decades, except for one year whereby he served as Deputy Minister of Interior (2009-2010).
The late Dr. Ahmed Hassan Goole, May Allah have mercy on his soul was born in Hargeisa, the capital of the Republic of Somaliland in the year Olol-dheere in 1950. He was schooled at the Sheik Bashir and secondary education at the Hargeisa Vocational Training School and later went to the University of Medical Sciences for further studies in the former Somali Republic.
After completing his university education, he held different positions in various regions of Somalia, including the director of a hospital in Bossaso, Somalia. After Somaliland reasserted its independence, he served as the Regional Health Coordinator for the Maroodijeex Region from 1991 to 1994, and at the same time was in charge of the Hargeisa Municipality public health & sanitation department.
In 1994, during the outbreak of the inter-clans war, the late Dr. Goolle played a key role in the delivery of medical supplies to all health facilities in the displaced areas. From 1994 to 2012 he held various positions in the health sector.
According to the records of the Ministry of Health Development of the Republic of Somaliland, he was the Acting Health Coordinator of Maroodijeex Region for a period of one year (1995 to 1996). From 1997 to 1998 he was the Superintendent in charge of the Health Services and Expenditure System department.
From 1999 to 2000 he was the Director of the Health Department in the Ministry of Health Development of the Republic of Somaliland. He was later appointed National Nutrition Officer, a position he held from 2001 to 2004.
The late Ahmed Hassan Goole served as the focal point for health in Maroodijeh Region for almost eight years (2005-2012) during which time he oversaw a number of developments strides and capacity building at the Ministry of Health Development of the Republic of Somaliland and played a key role in reforming the various health and service delivery departments, formulating policies and operational procedures at the health ministry..
He was one of the founders of the UDUB political party, and a member of the party’s Central Committee, and later became a member of the Executive Committee of the party until 2010 when the current ruling Kulmiye Party came to power during the Presidential election which was held that year.
The late Dr. Ahmed Hassan Goolle, May Allah have mercy on his soul is survived by a wife of many years and nine children (7 boys and 2 girls).
