THT-Speaking to State owned Somali language Dawan Newspaper; members of the public welcomed the government’s move to start teaching primary school students the recitation of the Holy Quran.

The people who spoke to Dawan newspaper said that it is a step in the right direction that is commendable, and called on the Ministry of Education to give special importance to the study of religion and the word of God.
The Minister of Education and Science, Ahmed Mohamed Diriye, said the government has decided to teach the Qur’an in schools in Somaliland, which will begin this year in 2021.
In Somaliland schools, the Koran was not taught except in Islamic institutes and privatelty owned madarassa.
