Supreme Court issued circular readjusting price paid compensation

THT-The Supreme Court has issued a circular aimed at amending the value of compensation, injury and dowry for women in any litigation thereafter.

The value of a camel has been prescribed in the vairous litigations of each type of lawsuit.

In a circular issued on 10 Jan 2021, by the Chairman of the Supreme Court Justice Adan Haji Ali adviced the heads of the Courts of Appeal, Regions, and Districts and the Prosecutor general that after considering the general interests of justice, and in consultation with the concerned stakeholders re-adjusted the compensation for murder, injuries and also dowry for women to all applicable lawsuits as follows:-

Intentional murder or injuries will have the value of each camel as 3,500,000 shillings (three million five hundred thousand Somaliland shillings).

Unintentional Murder or injuries such as car accidents or similar tragedies will have the value of each camel as 2,500,000 shillings (two million five hundred thousand Somaliland shillings),

The bride’s dowry will have the value of each camel as 3,500,000 shillings (three million five hundred thousand Somaliland shillings).

This circular does not apply the agreement parties reach outside courts.
