Hargeisa (THT) Somaliland and Ethiopia have agreeto strengthen the defense and security partnership a day after Somaliland armed forces repulsed the ambush by gunmen aligned to renegade Sultan Wabar near the village of Qolujeed which is situated in the border between Somaliland and Ethiopia in Awdal region.
Somaliland Foreign affairs Minister Hon Mohamed Bihi Yunis speaking to the press said, “We and our Ethiopian brothers have discussed matters regarding to the yesterday incident in Qolujeed which is situated in the border with Ethiopia and we have agreed to work together in a bid to deal with those threatening the security of both nation.
“During our meeting today the Ethiopian ambassador reaffirmed the commitment by Ethiopian government to a strong and historic friendship with Somaliland and the strength of this feeling with Somaliland should not be underestimated”, he added.
“Both nations are committed to enhance existing cooperation on matters regarding security and Border. Somaliland and Ethiopian brotherly relations must persist and live longer forever, for the interest of both countries, for the horn of Africa to heel and for the region to prosper”, Hon Bihi said.
Hon Bihi Yunis, “The relationship between Somaliland and Ethiopia is based on people to people relationship and the free movement of people and trade as well as safe guarding and securing the security of the two countries must be priority number one for both countries. It must be enhanced and maintained all the time.
Somaliland Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon Mohamed Bihi Yonis said, “Ethiopia has been and will be a good Friend of Somaliland and the two countries have a very close relationship, and promised not only to maintain prevalent existing bilateral relations but to strengthen them in the Future.
Major General Behre Tesfaye , Ethiopian Ambassador to Somaliland on his part said, “The Ethiopian government is investigating the incident in Qolujeed which is situated in the border between Somaliland and Ethiopia and promised to deal with those threatening the security of both nations.
