Resettlement Minister says that severe drought has hit the Eastern Regions of Somaliland

The Ministry of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs of Somaliland held a meeting to discuss the general situation of internally displaced persons in the country.

The displaced persons are located in the regions of Togdeer, Saahil, Sanaag, Sellel and Gabiley.

The officials of the Islamic charities organizations that attended the meeting said that the situation was not a new one, but recurring.

 They proposed the finding of a solution to the recurring droughts and the circumstances in the country that lead to constant displacement, hence suggested that the responsibility should be taken to grow enough fodder for livestock to survive the drought.

The Minister of Resettlement and Humanitarian Affairs of Somaliland, Hon. Suleiman Duale Jama, said that the government is ready to find solutions for the drought-affected and displaced communities so that their work can be addressed.

The Minister decried the situation of the severe drought that has caused people to flee their homes that are currently occurring in the eastern regions of Somaliland, due to lack of rainfall.

He asked the Islamic charity organizations in attendance to appeal and inform anyone who can help with the current situation of the displaced and drought-affected communities in Somaliland to eke in support.
